20kg gold valued at Rs 6 crore seized at Dabolim

Panaji:  In the biggest haul of smuggled gold yet, officers of the air intelligence unit of the Indian customs at Dabolim international airport seized around 20kg of gold from passengers on a flight from Qatar to Goa, in the early hours of Monday. The seized gold is valued at 6 crore, a customs official said.

Investigations are still on and it is not clear as to how many people were involved in the smuggling operation but customs officials believe the gold was brought into the country by passengers travelling on Qatar Airways flight 522, with the help of one or more loaders employed by the airline.

Three persons hailing from Bhatkal in Karnataka have been arrested and were being interrogated until late in the evening.
