Chennai: Air customs seized 8kg of gold, worth Rs 2.31 crore, smuggled in from Kuwait and Dubai in four separate incidents on Sunday and Monday and arrested four passengers.
The gold was concealed in Vaseline jars and in a television set.
On Monday, 1.7kg of gold bars, worth Rs 48.37lakh, and 1.2kg gold, worth Rs 34.28lakh, were seized from two passengers who arrived from Kuwait in separate flights.
Mohammed Ghouse, who arrived from Kuwait via Bahrain, had hidden the gold bars inside in two Vaseline containers. Syed Jawad Basha, who arrived in a Kuwait Airways flight, had hidden the gold in his bag and on his body, said a statement from Air customs.
Gold bars weighing 1.4kg, worth Rs 41.74 lakh, and 3.72kg, worth Rs 1.06 crore, were seized from two passengers who arrived from Kuwait on separate flights on Sunday.
