AirAsia not to break even before eight months, says head of investor relations Benyamin Bin Ismail

Bengaluru:  AirAsia India has no chance of breaking even before at least eight months, the head of investor relations at its parent said Thursday, pushing back its earlier four month breakeven target.

The airline will in the first four months "build its brand" offering low fares and getting traffic on its flights, said Benyamin Bin Ismail.

AirAsia India launched flights last month from Bangalore to Chennai and Goa, at advance fares as low as Rs 490 and Rs 990, prices much below levels which would cover costs of the airline. It has also launched flights to Kochi.

Its CEO Mittu Chandilya had said it aims to break even in 4 months.

Ismail said however that its Goa Bangalore flights are running full while flights to Kochi are getting 80% occupancy.
