New Delhi: If you are waiting for a flight at IGI airport, you might notice a cat's poster declaring a reward of Rs 20,000 for tracing the pet or sharing her whereabouts. Mulan, a 5-year-old American Shorthair, went missing from a Thai Airways pet carrier on June 4. Animal welfare groups and relocation agency staff at the airport have mounted a desperate search for her. Mulan was even spotted on July 6 by a rescue volunteer in the green patch opposite Aerocity and a few passengers caught a glimpse of her near the airport.
For Mulan's Filipino owners, it has been a tormenting month of separation with constant fear of losing her to an accident or starvation. The only assurance: cats are inherently independent and almost defiant in the face of adversity. On the night of June 4, Mulan and her owner were to fly in the same flight to Bangkok. But, according to Amritika Phool of Animal Care Society, which is leading the rescue operation, Thai Airways tried to send Mulan in an earlier flight. When Mulan's owner landed in Bangkok on June 5, she learnt about Mulan's disappearance. "There was absolutely no effort on the part of Thai Airways India to contact the owner while she was still on the ground in Delhi when the cat went missing. Both the management and staff of the airline fail to understand the urgency of the matter. Mulan is like their child," said Amritika.
