Bid to Smuggle Gold Foiled

Thiruvananthapuram: Air Customs officials on Wednesday foiled an attempt to smuggle one kg of gold through the international airport here, the third such attempt in a few days.
“The accused, identified as Abdul Ahammed of Nagapattanam, hailing from Tamil Nadu, was nabbed following a tip-off,” sources said.
He had arrived from Singapore on a Tiger Airways flight and hid the gold in a pouch around his waist. The arrest was led by Assistant Commissioner Sanjay Bangartale. On Sunday, the customs foiled a bid to smuggle around 1.1 kilogram gold which was concealed in a microwave oven.
