Call to rename Kochi airport

Kochi:  Demands to rename the Nedumbassery International Airport after Hindu philosopher Adi Sankaracharya has once again gained momentum.

The Bharat Vikas Parishad on Friday submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking to rename the airport after the saint whose birthplace,

Kalady, is close to the airport. “The Bharat Vikas Parishad had earlier made this request at the national level in 2000. The former national president of the BVK, Justice J V Gupta, had requested the then Minister for Civil Aviation to do the needful in this regard. But the unexpected death of Justice Gupta in 2001 left the matter unattended.
