Pune: A total of 168 passengers and seven crew members on board Air India's flight AI-853 from Delhi to Pune escaped unhurt when the flight made an emergency landing at the city's Lohegaon airport on Friday night owing to a "technical snag". This was the third incident of its kind at the Pune airport involving Air India flights in the last seven months.
"A piece of rubber from one of the tyres of the aircraft had come apart during the flight's take off from the Delhi airport. The pilot noticed this but the aircraft was already airborne. The pilot then put the Pune airport authorities on an alert for the landing process. The aircraft landed safely here at 8.45 pm and there was no harm to the passengers," airport officials told TOI.
Consequently, the departure of the return flight of AI-854, which was to carry 171 passengers from Pune to Delhi at 9.30 pm, had to be put off. The flight eventually took off for Delhi with 91 passengers on board at 10.54 am on Saturday.
