Currency Worth Rs 22 Lakh Seized from 3 Passengers

Kochi: The officers of Air Intelligence Unit, Air Customs, Cochin International Airport, Nedumbassery intercepted three passengers, while they attempted to smuggle out foreign currency equivalent to Rs 21,99,075 to UAE and seized a 24-carat gold chain weighing 260 grams from a passenger who arrived from Sharjah on Sunday night.

In yet another case, pieces of cut gold bars weighing 482 grams was seized from a passenger who arrived from Sharjah on Monday.  

A crude gold chain of 24 carat weighing 260 grams and valued at Rs 7,43,600 was seized from a passenger hailing from Palakkad, who arrived from Sharjah by Air Arabia flight G9 425.

In two cases, two passengers hailing from Kasargod and travelling to Sharjah by Air India Express flight IX 411 were intercepted at the customs counter in the departure hall, on suspicion that they were carrying contraband goods.
When questioned by Customs officers, whether they had any contraband goods with them, they denied.
