Kochi: The Cochin International airport, which has been on a high security alert following receipt of calls threatening terrorist attack, has lifted the ban on visitors from Tuesday. However, the airport will continue to be on a red-alert till the next review meeting.
A decision on permitting visitors to the airport was taken during a security review meeting on Monday presided by Airport Director A.K.C Nair. The meeting, which evaluated the airport security apparatus following security threat, reported satisfaction over the special security measures.
In addition to the security review meeting, a full scale mock security drill to test the preparedness of the security forces in the event of a terrorist attack was also conducted during the day. The whole exercise was closely monitored and reviewed by the senior airport and CISF officials, who reported satisfaction over the preparedness and the reaction time of the security forces.
