Plea for ATDC office at Dibrugarh airport

Dibrugarh: The Dibrugarh Nagarik Sangha, a citizens' group, has urged the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) to set up offices at the Dibrugarh airport and railway station.

The Sangha in a statement on Monday said that despite having enough potential of tea, wildlife and eco-tourism in this part of the region, the state government has failed to tap the resources because of short-sightedness and lack of a proper roadmap.

A member of sangha, Satyabrata Sarmah, who is also the Dibrugarh Bar Association secretary, said despite Dibrugarh emerging as a major communication hub with the Dibrugarh airport handling the second highest number of passengers and flights in Assam and the Dibrugarh station enjoying similar status, the tourism department has not taken any step to utilize the two vital transit points for visitors, a sizeable number of whom are from abroad.
