AI starts flier survey in Diamond City

Surat:  The Air India (AI) has started a fresh survey to assess passenger traffic potential from Surat towards Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.

A team of AI officials led by general manager Mukesh Bhatia was in the city to meet members of trade and commerce, Surat Diamond Association (SDA), Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) and 'We Want Working Airport at Surat' (WWWAS) on Tuesday.

AI at present operates Delhi-Surat-Delhi evening flight three days a week. In a meeting organized at SGCCI's Samruddhi building in Nanpura on Tuesday, AI officials said aviation turbine fuel (ATF) was very costly and there were no chances of reducing fares between popular destinations. Things like schedules and other infrastructure at the airport would be evaluated and worked upon accordingly.

SGCCI office-bearers said frequent flyers and those doing international trips are not bothered about the fare. Instead of spending Rs 7,000 to Rs 9,000 on a tourist car for airport pick-up and drop at Mumbai, the residents would prefer to travel in the flight.
