Guwahati: Alliance Air has resumed service to the airports at Lilabari and Tezpur in Assam and Shillong in Meghalaya from Friday onward.
Alliance Air is the wholly owned subsidiary of Air India and the airline stopped services in these routes due to irregular payment of the viability gap funding by the North Eastern Council (NEC).
Alliance Air was provided Viability Gap funding (VGF) during the 10th and 11th Five Year Plan period. According to a statement from Northeast Eastern Council (NEC) the air services to the region were provided by the Airline till December 31, 2011 with VGF from NEC.
However, this arrangement was not renewed beyond December, 2011. Even after that the Airline provided their services to some of the airports till December 31, 2012 at their own. Finally, the services were withdrawn from the airports of Tezpur, Lilabari and Shillong from January 2013.
