Aviation agencies remain headless

New Delhi: UPA-II's inability to find suitable people to man key aviation agencies has now come to haunt the Modi government. The NDA has to hunt for chiefs of all aviation agencies — except the downgraded Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The list of agencies awaiting a new head includes — Air India (AI), Airports Authority of India (AAI), Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd (PHHL) and Bureau for Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).

AAI member (planning) Sudhir Raheja got temporary charge as chairman of the organization. Alok Sinha, a senior IAS officer and joint secretary in the aviation ministry, was looking after AAI since mid-January when UPA-II had decided to terminate V P Agrawal's extension as AAI chairman. He has now been repatriated to his parent UP cadre.
