Double delight for airport traffic

Kolkata: It's a double treat for those travelling to the airport frequently: the Kestopur-Baguiati flyover and the one at Ultadanga. While 85% work of the first one has been complete, the flyover at Ultadanga — which collapsed in March last year — is in the final stage for a new beginning. Once these two flyovers are thrown open for public use, it will take much less time to drive down to the airport.

The bad news, however, is that the Kestopur-Baguiati flyover won't be complete before the puja as it was initially thought. "About 85% of work has already been completed. But it is unlikely that it will be ready for use by September 30, the deadline we had our eyes fixed on," said an official of the state Public Welfare Department, which is charge of the flyover. Taking a lesson from the Ultadanga disaster, the authorities, however, do not want to compromise on the quality of the construction.
