Ebola scare at Lohegaon airport

Puine: A 33-year-old man from Pimpri who had travelled to an Ebola-hit African country and returned to Pune via Dubai had airport and health officials on their toes when he landed in Pune on Thursday. However, the passenger was allowed to leave after screening as he did not show any symptoms of the dreaded infection.

"Since the person had a travel history to Guinea, which is among the Ebola-hit African countries, airport officials received an alert as a precautionary measure. They in turn informed us about the passenger's arrival. We examined the person when he reached the airport but he did not show any symptoms. Hence, we did not have to quarantine him nor did we draw his blood sample for testing. He was allowed to go soon after his medical check up," said H H Chavan, deputy director, directorate of health services.
