Jet Airways brings back Santosh Chalke to lead staff relations unit

Mumbai:  Jet Airways has brought back Santosh Chalke, an earlier senior executive of its HR department to a newly-created post as head of employee relations. He will also head projects for the airline.

Chalke was chief general manager of HR at Jet in 2009. Previous to joining Jet earlier this month, he was employed with Raymond. The appointment comes at a time when the airline is facing issues relating to arrears worth Rs 100 crore to its staff. Media reports said pilots at Jet Airways had threatened to agitate if it didn't give them a firm date for clearing the arrears. The airline's vice-president N Ravichandran on Tuesday said the company is having discussions with its employees to sort out the issue. As of June-end, Jet Airways had a total employee count of 14,019, including more than 1,000 pilots.
Jet is also following strict measures to cut costs by $100 million and may have to take some tough decisions on headcount.
