Jet disbands JetKonnect, to be all full service and single brand

New Delhi: Turning logic on its head, the dwindling numbers of full service domestic travellers are all set to witness a fierce three-way battle between aviation giants to fly them.
On Monday afternoon, Tata-Singapore Airlines (TSAL) JV announced its uber luxury domestic airline Vistara that will "redefine the way we travel in India". Exactly three hours after this move, Naresh Goyal disbanded his low-cost arm JetKonnect or JetLite. Goyal switched over to a single full service brand of Jet, though frequent flyers say the difference in his full service and low-cost operations had completely blurred over the years. The only difference, say frequent flyers, was that the full service gave blankets on demand and did not charge for food.
"The enhanced domestic offering will provide a quality product with exclusive value-adds, including premium seating, lounge passes, and higher baggage allowances than competitors," Jet said about its repositioning.
The third and oldest full service carrier (FSC) Air India is in a major revamp mode, following its entry into Star Alliance. Now the three will shortly be fighting to lure flyers on board with the promise of unparalleled luxury. But aviation experts are asking if there will be enough for them to fight over?
