Man With 10 kg Pot in Bag Held at Airport

Chennai: Airline staff who check-in baggage with a rehearsed smile, very rarely see something in the bags that scandalises them. But the man who put Port Blair bound S Selvam’s suitcase through the scanner and was about to check it in had the shock of his life - when he realised that the black suitcase was stuffed to the brim with marijuana.
Stunned for a while, the man didn’t quite know what to do as smuggling is a rarity on domestic flights. “He may have wanted to recheck the weight of the bag and so he scanned it again.
When he found it to be a suspicious substance, he quietly alerted the CISF guards and called the airline’s own security guards.
Selvam was then taken aside as the crowd to board the flight was growing,” said an airport source. It was just after 4 am and the passengers who were queuing up to board Air India flight AI 549 at 5 am, watched with interest for a while.
