Several flights diverted, delayed at Ahmedabad airport

Ahmedabad: As many as six flights had to be diverted and seven were delayed for over two hours because of heavy rains and poor visibility at the city's Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel International Airport on Wednesday morning.

"There was minor damage to the runway because of the rains but there was no waterlogging. The runway of 1800 metres was available for landing and take-off. The diversions and delays were because of the heavy rains and low visibility at the runway," said R K Singh, airport director. Air traffic had returned to normal by late afternoon on Wednesday and flights began operations as per schedule after 1 pm. The diverted flights were able to return in the afternoon.

Air India's three flights, including an international flight, and Indigo Airline's three flights were diverted while two flights of Indigo, four of Spicejet and one of Jet Airways were delayed by two to three hours.
