Aranmula Airport: Sugathakumari, Kummanam Meet Shah

Thiruvananthapuram: Demanding BJP’s intervention in prevailing upon the Central Government to withdraw all licences and permits granted to the proposed Aranmual airport project, Anti-airport Action Council leader Kummanam Rajasekharan and poet Sugathakumari, who spearhead the agitation at Aranmula, met BJP national president Amit Shah here on Monday.
Amit Shah promised the leaders that he would take up the matter with the concerned ministry for addressing the concerns of the people.
BJP senior leader O Rajagopal, state president V Muralidharan, national executive member P K Krishnadas, state general secretaries K Surendran, A N Radhakrishnan and state vice-president M T Ramesh were present at the meeting.
The leaders pointed out to the party president that Aranmula village and temple had a tradition of 1800 years and it was a world heritage village and, the implementation of the airport project would result in an environmental disaster which will lead to fall in water level in the Pampa river and  destruction of paddy fields.
They pointed out that the Comptroller and Auditor General had also cited a series of violation of norms and corruption in his report.
