Compensation details sought for airport expansion

Vijayawada: Farmers and property owners in Buddavaram village under Gannavaram mandal on the city outskirts are demanding that the government announce compensation details before acquiring lands for the expansion of Gannavaram airport.

The Krishna district administration has already served notices to nearly 180 farmers and property owners in the village for acquiring more than 190 acres.

The Land Acquisition Officer has also conducted an enquiry into the objections pertaining to the land acquisition process and submitted a report to the district administration.

“Farmers are not against parting their lands for Gannavaram airport expansion. But, the government has to declare compensation details, including the modalities related to the land acquisition, basic value of the land and etc,” former Zilla Parishad Chairman Kadiyala Raghava Rao said.

All the farmers and land holders, who received the notices organised a meeting at Ramalayam at Davaji Gudem on Monday to discuss the government’s move to acquire lands.

They said that there were many issues that remained unclear and it was high time the authorities give explanations on those issues.
