Vashi: The first flight will take off from Navi Mumbai international airport (NMIA) in December 2018, informed Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan while inaugurating the exhibition centre at sector 30 of Vashi on Thursday.
The much-awaited prestigious project has already got all the necessary clearances and discussions with some villagers for land acquisition is in progress.
If all goes well, then the international airport will become a reality by the end of 2018. "The much-awaited project has always been priority of the Maharashtra government and it will soon become a reality," said Chavan, adding, "The project has already received Environment clearances from the Ministry of Environment and Forest.
Sanjay Bhatia, vice-chairman and managing director of Cidco, said, "Most of the villages, which had earlier opposed the proposed airport and the rehabilitation package offered by the state government, have now agreed to the terms and conditions." He added that around 97 per cent villagers have agreed with the planning agency on land acquisition matter.
