Gold worth Rs 1 crore seized at Trivandrum Airport

Thiruvananthapuram:  In two separate incidents on Tuesday, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) authorities and customs officials at the Trivandrum International Airport seized about 3.5 kg gold estimated to cost Rs one crore.

In the first case, DRI authorities found two gold bars and 10 gold biscuits hidden in a garbage bin inside the toilet of a Jet Airways flight operating in the Muscat-Thiruvananthapuram-Bangalore sector. The gold bars weighed one kilogram each and the biscuits weighed 100 grams apiece.

They said that a passenger who boarded the flight from Muscat would have smuggled in the gold and left it in the toilet so that another person travelling from Thiruvananthapuram to Bangalore could fetch it and smuggle it out of the airport.
