Haj pilgrims stranded at Jaipur airport

Jaipur: The Haj pilgrims from western Rajasthan were stranded for more than 12 hours in Jaipur after the pilot ran short of his flying hours. State Haj committee blamed Air India which has outsourced its services to Thailand-based Jet Asia airlines. The flight which was scheduled to depart at 8.30pm, departed at 8.30am on Friday. The passengers were shifted to a five star hotel, near Airport and were provided refreshments by the national carrier.

The rules say that every crew has certain flying hours (depending from country to country), starting with the take-off from the original destination. After the stipulated hours, it is considered that the crew is not capable of flying. "The crew, including the pilots, used up their flying hours, flying continuously between Jaipur and Jeddah. They reported the fact to the airport authorities and then left, to rest at a private hotel, till their next cycle of flying hours began in the morning," said an airport official.
