Secunderabad Cantonment Board may seal Begumpet airport over tax dues

Hyderabad: With the Begumpet airport yet to clear property tax arrears of over Rs 12 crore, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has threatened to seal the airport premises after the 30-day deadline.

According to general land records (GLR), the Begumpet airport, spread over 700 acres, is located in survey No. 777 in the Secunderabad Cantonment jurisdiction. A two-member SCB team recently visited the Begumpet airport and met officials and served red notices to pay dues of Rs 12.38 crore. They told the airport authorities that the property would be sealed in case the dues were not paid by September 11.

"As per the Cantonment board records, the Begumpet airport is the biggest property tax defaulter, which as arrears to the tune of Rs 12.38 crore. The last tax payment was made in 2006. Since then, the authorities have failed to clear dues. In fact, they had approached court on property tax assessment, but did not get any relief," senior SCB tax department official Annie told TOI.
