470 Indian pilgrims in delayed departure

Jeddah: Some 470 Indian pilgrims bound for Kolkata are stuck in Jeddah since Friday because of flight delays.

Passengers on Flight AI 5008 and AI 5010 were scheduled to depart the Haj Terminal at King Abdul Aziz International Airport Jeddah at 7.40 p.m. on Friday. But at 6. 30 p.m. they were shifted to a hotel.

“The delay is due to some technical problems in the aircraft,” Air India Station Manager Firoz Khan told Saudi Gazette.

He assured that the two flights with 235 passengers each will depart by midnight. “We are stuck here for more than 24 hours, and no one is giving us any clear picture about the status of our flight,” said one of the passengers. He said that their baggage was taken 60 hours before the scheduled departure of the flight.
