After Hudhud disaster, Vizag airport services to resume on Friday

New Delhi: After the devastation left in the wake of cyclone Hudhud in and around the port city of Visakhapatnam, flight services are scheduled to resume operations on Friday. The Vizag airport was damaged by cyclone Hudhud which hit the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on Sunday.

The civilian passengers terminal of the airport will be repaired in 3 months. While the radar antenna at the airport has been completely damaged, it will be replaced in a month's time. No night flights from Vizag will be taking off as lights on the runway are damaged.

"Air India will start its flight operations from tomorrow. Subsequently another nine flights by other operators may start from day after tomorrow tentatively," Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju told reporters in Visakhapatnam.

The airport is being restored and all efforts are being made for operation of immigration facilities so that the international flights may start by November 1, he said.
