Airport deal gathers steam as letters pour in

Navi Mumbai: The airport deal offered by City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) is close to being accepted by all, say sources.

After Dussehra, Cidco officials saw a flood of consent letters giving a boost to hopes that the project may get started soon. The villagers, officials said, started cooperating during land surveys too.

"There was no need for police deployment and villagers were made aware that they would be opting for a far inferior deal under the Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement (LAAR) package," said Revati Gaikar, deputy collector, Raigad.
Gaikar said Cidco had received 600 of the 1,350 consent letters and 40-50% of the R&R letters. She said she also visited Pargaon-Koli villages on Saturday and found that the villagers were willing to cooperate for the ongoing survey.
