Calangute: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has said the proposed Mopa airport is the need of the hour.
Addressing a press conference at Baga on Wednesday, Lobo strongly criticized forests minister Alina Saldanha and fisheries minister Avertano Furtado for prevaricating over the issue and attempting to mislead the people of South Goa.
"The Centre has already given an assurance that Dabolim airport will continue to operate after Mopa is built. It will continue to be used for foreign charter flights, while Mopa will cater to scheduled direct international flights and be a cargo hub," Lobo said. "I'm appealing to all Goans not to play politics over Mopa."
He pointed out that right now major foreign airlines are not operating direct international flights to Dabolim as the bigger aircraft cannot land there and there are also naval restrictions because of which civilian aircraft are not permitted to land between 7am and 11am.
