CIAL and KWA to set up drinking water scheme in Kochi

Kochi: In a unique initiative, the Cochin International Airport limited is joining hands with the Jalanidhi project to set up a drinking water project covering the Kanjoor, Nedumbassery and Sreemoolanagaram panachayats.

According to officials, the project envisages implementation of a drinking water network in the panchayats that house the Green Field Airport project. The total cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs. 85 crore, of which, Rs. 27 crore has been set aside for laying pipelines.

Of this amount, the Kerala Water Authority will be contributing about 80 per cent while the balance amount will be shared equally between panchayats and the airport company. The objective is to cover all the households in the three panchayats under the drinking water network and provide them an average of 100 litres per day. Works on the project will start from January 2015, which will be completed by December, said V.J. Kurian, Chairman of the Jalanidhi project and managing director of CIAL.
