Kochi: The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has reported a surge in the number of passengers in the April-September period of this year.
The total number of passengers travelling through the CIAL increased 15.63 per cent annually to 31.07 lakh during the period. The number of domestic passengers grew by 19.55 per cent to 12.32 lakh, and the number of international passengers rose by 13.19 percent to 18.76 lakh during the six-month period.
“The growth clearly indicates that the CIAL’s efforts to provide world-class facilities at low cost were successful,” a press statement stated. “The CIAL has the lowest landing and parking fees in South India. In the 2013-14 financial year, 53.4 lakh passengers travelled through the CIAL, which is a record in Kerala. Going by the trend, it is expected that passenger traffic through CIAL would rise to 60 lakh in the current financial year,” said CIAL managing director V J Kurian.
