Mangalore: Officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport at Kenjar here have detected another novel modus operandi of gold smuggling and seized one gold bar weighing 1-kg valued at Rs 27,10,000. The gold bar was concealed in a life jacket bag placed below the seat of the Jet Airways flight 9W531 which arrived from Dubai at 9am on October 13.
Madapalli Mammad Ismail, resident of Napoklu, Kodagu brought the gold bar, Mammad who arrived at MIA from Dubai and kept it below the seat. Customs officials arrested the passenger and produced him before the judicial magistrate who remanded him in judicial custody.
