Dabolim airport to stay operational while airstrip is repaired

Panaji:  Even as work to repair a single airstrip is scheduled to begin from January 31, 2015, the Dabolim airport will remain operative as per schedule, at least initially. Chief minister Manohar Parrikar said that repair of 800m at one end of the runway will be taken up first and work of other 800m will follow.

Speaking after the inauguration of the office of Union minister of state for tourism Shripad Naik at Paryatan Bhavan, Patto, Parrikar clarified that airport operations will not be restricted when this work is taken up.

At a later stage, when concretization of the middle portion of the runway begins, which will go on for around two months before winding up all of the work in May, 2015, the airport will be open for eight hours only from 5am to 1pm.
