DGCA audit reveals shortage of trainers at Jet Airways

New Delhi: Jet Airways seems to be cutting down on training to its pilots and is facing a severe shortage of trainers across its ATR and Boeing fleets, says a training audit of the airline done by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

"Strength of trainers in Jet Airways training facilities is found substantially low as per the recommended strength in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation operations circular as well as training manual for all types of fleet, except Airbus 330," reads a Directorate General of Civil Aviation report. Jet Airways has a fleet of more than 100 aircraft and operates ATR, short-haul Boeing 737s and Airbus 330 as well as long-range Boeing 777s.

According to the report, the airline's training division is overlooking numerous deficiencies. "...in many cases signatures of trainee and trainers were missing" and also certifications by trainers and rule check forms were "not appropriately filed", says the report. Jet Airways said it underwent a DGCA audit in August for which it has filed all necessary res ponses with the regulator.
