DGCA takes first steps towards preventing spread of ebola into India

Even as the first case of ebola has been reported in New York, the scare is spreading. India too is taking steps towards ensuring that the virus doesn't make its way into the country.

According to a Times of India report yesterday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued directives to airlines stepping up its vigilance over the steadily spreading decease.

“Airlines shall ensure that adequate number of Universal Precaution Kits are kept on board the aircraft operating international flights in accordance with the prescribed guidelines,” a report in the Economic Times said quoting from a letter the aviation regulator sent to the airlines.

The cabin crew should inspect all the proformas and they should identify the passengers with similar symptoms of ebola and send them to medical units, the letter has said.

Moreover, such passengers must be earmarked a toilet which should not be used by others and the regulator has said steps should also be taken to limit cabin crew’s and other passengers’ contact with such travellers, the report said.
