Lucknow: Spitting or littering at Lucknow airport may invite a fine of Rs 200 but not this Gandhi Jayanti. Instead, the watchful Airport Athority of India (AAI) officials resorted to `Gandhigiri' on the day - they would approach the erring passengers and politely ask them not to do so.
Turning it into a purely awareness drive as part of nationwide `Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' the AAI avoided resorting to any harsh measures, including imposition of fine, on passengers violating the rules of airport.
"The idea is to make the passengers aware that the airport is their property and they need to keep it clean," said airport director Suresh Chandra Hota. He confirmed that they would be suspending imposition of fine on the erring passengers on the day. "We otherwise keep a close watch on the passengers and fine them in case they violate," he said.
