Margao: The Navelim gram sabha opposed the proposed airport at Mopa and want Dabolim to be retained as the only airport in the state.
When the Mopa airport issue was discussed, the gathered people started shouting, 'No To Mopa' and further discussions were held on how the existing airport is sufficient to cater to traffic beyond 2045.
The main issue at the gram sabha was that of its panchayat garbage management. The panchayat had recently started a door-to-door collection drive with the support of local MLA Avertano Furtado.
The panchayat gave information including financial details about the ongoing collection of dry waste. They informed that a vehicle dedicated for collection would go to each house once in 15 days and collect only dry waste. They further explained that wet waste has to be composted by the house owner in his compound and that if it is a multi-residential building then they have to build composting pits in their premises. Gram sabha members gave their suggestions on how to handle and store hazardous materials like dry battery cells, CFL bulbs.
