New Delhi: National Security Guard (NSG) has initiated an internal inquiry to find out how a dummy stun grenade was left behind during a security drill in an Air India plane kept on standby for PM Narendra Modi's US visit. The discovery of the stun grenade in the AI plane in Jeddah on Saturday had created a security scare with questions being raised about the adequacy of safety measures taken by the airliner.
The NSG probe follows directions from the home ministry which has sought a report. "After the plane was released from PM's standby duty, we conducted an anti-hijack security drill inside the aircraft on September 26. It started at 8.30 am and lasted till 1 pm. During such drills, a lot of dummy arms and ammunition are used. It seems one of the stun grenade dummies got left behind," said a senior NSG officer.
NSG DG Jayant Chaudhury told TOI that action would be taken against people whose lapse led to the incident.
