Visakhapatnam Airport to be Shut for a Week

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam airport sufferd a colossal damage due to the impact  of cyclone Hudhud on Sunday. Though the estimate of damages is yet to be taken up by the Airport Authority of India and the Navy, official sources said that the loss could be at least ` 150 crore. However, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu told reporters that the airport suffered a loss of ` 500 crore.

The roof of the airport was ripped apart and the premises turned into a battleground with debris all around. All the television sets and display boards along with the window panes have turned into shatters. The check-in counters for airliners were nowhere to be seen. Even the security equipment used for checking the passengers and their baggage is not functioning.

Damaged infrastructure includes two aerobridges, three escalators and five elevators apart from duty-free shops, online baggage conveyor system, customs and immigration facilities, restaurant and seperate lounges for VIPs and business lounges.
