After 2 year wait, Surat airport asks for CISF cover again

Surat: The district administration has written to the Central government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for providing trained manpower to ensure security at Surat airport following the November 6 incident of a buffalo hitting a SpiceJet aircraft here.
Official sources said district collector Rajender Kumar has urged the Central government to consider the long pending demand to provide a battalion of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for Surat airport's security.
Kumar, who also heads Surat Airport Development Committee, recently told TOI that the committee had two years ago put forth the demand for the deployment of CISF personnel at the airport. However, the AAI did not act on the demand and the security was still in the hands of personnel from city police and State Reserve Police (SRP).
