Surat: Six days after a buffalo hit a SpiceJet aircraft at Surat airport, the local city police conducted an anti-terror drill, mocking a plane hijack, on Wednesday.
A message was sent out by Air Traffic controller to the police control room about terrorists having hijacked a plane at the airport and were holding passengers hostage. The hijack was staged in an airport bus, pretending it was a plane. A team of five people played terrorists, and the entire operation was under the leadership of joint police commissioner V M Parghi with participation from airport officials.
Following the alert, the Surat police department armed with weapons reached the airport alongwith the ambulance.
Different teams were formed to carry out various actions.
