Buffalo-hits to affect NRG traffic

Surat:  The infamous buffalo hit incident at the Surat airport early this month is likely to affect the traffic of non-resident Gujaratis (NRGs) in the coming months due to insufficient air connectivity to and from the city. Passenger airline SpiceJet had cancelled all its flights from and to Surat after a buffalo hit its aircraft during take-off on November 6. Now there are only three flights from Surat airport that to only for New Delhi. There is no flight for Mumbai or any other place from the city.
Ramesh Patel, an NRG settled in North Carolina, US, had relatives coming over in January, but some of them have decided not to come as there was no direct flight to Surat. "They had booked tickets for Surat from Delhi but now the plan has changed. I have asked them to fly to Ahmedabad from Delhi and then travel by road to Surat. Out of the group of eight people, couple of them dropped out," Patel said.
Similar was the case with another NRG Dinesh Patel an IT engineer from Alberta, Canada. He was to visit his friend in Surat on November 16, but had to cancel the plans because there was no flight connectivity to the city after the buffalo hit incident. He rescheduled his plans and flew directly to Bangaluru from Mumbai and then returned back to Canada two days ago.
