DGCA team to inspect Udaipur airport highly vulnerable to stray animals, birds

Jaipur: Taking cognizance of the recent incidet of a buffalo straying at the Surat airport and posing danger to an aircraft, the Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA) has compiled a list of 18 airports in the country where 'wildlife hazard' is the worst. Airports in all six metros face this hazard.

Rajasthan's Udaipur airport is put under the highly sensitive 'wildlife hazard' category while Jaipur is listed as sensitive. A DGCA team will inspect the airports especially and the landing and taking off strips and nearby areas and prepare a report. Later, DGCA will ask the airports concerned to take up measures to prevent straying of animals and erasing grazing grounds near these airports.

A few days ago, a SpiceJet aircraft taxiing at the Surat airport for take-off hit a buffalo. The incident had exposed the reality of Indian airports and it appears that most of airports in the country have become grazing grounds, virtually, for cattle and the dirty surroundings act as magnets for birds.
