Kochi airport to rebrand itself

Kochi: Cochin International Airport (CIAL), which has implemented various environment friendly practises, is undertaking a re-branding exercise on November 17. Kerala Fisheries and Ports Minister K Babu will unveil the new brand identity, handing over the same to V J Kurian, Additional Chief Secretary and CIAL Managing Director, a CIAL press release said.

The airport which requires about 55,000 units of power per day, will need 1.1 lakh units a day when the new terminal is commissioned. "We plan to produce the entire power requirement of the airport through solar power", an official said.

The airport has already set up a one MW solar power station and proposes to install another 7 MW plant which is in the pipeline. There are also plans to set up eight mini hydel stations, for which the survey has been completed.
