Lucknow, Varanasi airports scanning tourists for Ebola

Lucknow:  The two International airports in Uttar Pradesh—Lucknow and Varanasi—have come on the radar of the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA), days after a passenger was found inflicted with Ebola virus at Delhi airport. The authority has issued fresh instructions to conduct rigorous checking of foreign tourists for possibility of virus threat.

While Lucknow airport, being located in the state capital, receives a number of flights from New Delhi and Mumbai, the Varanasi airport receives foreign tourists. Sources said passports of foreign passengers are being checked thoroughly to ascertain the nationality and if found from any of the west or South African countries they are made to go through an isolation cell for checkup.

The development comes a couple of days after a team from DGCA made surprise visit to the two airports to inspect the precautionary arrangements the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has taken. Sources at the Lucknow airport said the team inspected some aircraft which landed from Delhi and Mumbai.
