Mumbai woman held with Rs 1crore gold at Lohegaon airport

Pune: A woman was arrested at the Lohegaon airport on Saturday for trying to smuggle eight gold bars worth over Rs 1 crore from Dubai.
Agwan Assamma, a resident of Jogeshwari (west) in Mumbai, had arrived from Dubai by an Air India express flight on Saturday morning.
Customs commissioner Vasa Seshagiri Rao said that Agwan tried to clear the customs channel by submitting a nil customs declaration about dutiable imported goods. However, an alert customs official noticed her suspicious activities and detained her for questioning.
Rao said that a search conducted on Assamma led to the recovery of eight gold bars of foreign make concealed in a special vest underneath her clothes.
The total weight of the seized gold bars is 4kg and is worth Rs 1,06,88,160.
