Second birdhit in a fortnight at Ahmedabad airport

Ahmedabad: Five days after a buffalo hit an aeroplane in Surat, a Mumbai-bound GoAir flight had to make an emergency landing at Ahmedabad airport following a bird-hit on Tuesday morning. This was the eighth incident of bird-hit at the city airport this year and damaged the left engine of the aircraft. According to officials, GoAir flight number G8 368 was at 300 feet in the sky when the pilot felt a hit in the engine and reported it to the ATC tower.

There were 110 passengers and six crew members in the aircraft. "The aircraft suffered damage to the left engine. Repair started immediately after the flight landed at the domestic terminal of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport," officials said. The flight took off at 9.15 in the morning and the incident occurred soon after. All passengers were sent to Mumbai by other airlines. The aircraft flew to Mumbai without any passenger later in the evening. According to sources, the birds flew in from Maya Cinema area in Kubernagar. The area around the airport was later cleared by the officials, sources said.
