Nagpur: The Saudi Arabian Airlines aircraft which was grounded on Wednesday night caused a delay in the arrival of the second flight of the second phase of Haj flights bringing the pilgrims back to Nagpur on Thursday.
The flight which was supposed to land around 5pm was rescheduled to land later at 9.20pm at Nagpur airport. The Saudi Arabian Airlines aircraft which brought the first batch of pilgrims on Wednesday was grounded in Nagpur after it was damaged near the rear door.
Sources at the airport said the damage was caused due to a step ladder during ground handling of the aircraft which is being done by Air India. A team from Mumbai was expected to arrive in Nagpur in the morning, but only came in late afternoon.
Meanwhile, the second Haj flight was delayed as the repairs had not finished and the city airport could accommodate the parking of only one Boeing 747 aircraft. Special arrangements were done to give clearances for the second flight to land and de-board the passengers.
