Tug-of-bags at city airport

Ahmedabad: A trip to Ahmedabad Airport to receive his uncle turned into a nightmare for Mushtaq Raja, a Maninagar resident. He was accused of theft and even questioned by the police, all because he had mistakenly picked up a wrong bag at the baggage area. Unfortunately for Raja, the bag belonged to Uttar Pradesh DIG Uday Pratap. According to Raja, he was at the airport to receive his uncle Suleiman who was to arrive in the city from London via New Delhi on Jet Airways flight at 1 pm. "I received my uncle and went to collect his bags from the baggage area. I saw a bag similar to the one uncle Suleiman usually carries and mistook it for his. I collected the bag and proceeded to the exit," Raja said. The DIG saw Raja taking his bags and raised an alarm.
A source at Sardarnagar police station said, "Uttar Pradesh DIG was in the city and he saw Raja pick up his bag. Though Raja apologised for his mistake, Pratap and a few others were apprehensive that something might have been stolen from the bags. We talked to Raja who said that it was just an error on his part and he had no mala fide intention. Pratap checked his bags and found everything intact. Finally, the matter was sorted out." Sardarnagar PI K K Patel confirmed the incident and said, "It was asimple mistake and everything was sorted out amicably at the end. UP DIG Uday Pratap did not file a complaint. So, we took Raja's statement and let him go."
