Airlines use bigger aircraft to meet demand triggered by SpiceJet woes

Mumbai: Jet Airways and Air India have started using wide-body, twin-aisle aircraft for flights between Mumbai and Delhi to meet the year-end passenger demand, which is higher this time because of cancellations by beleaguered SpiceJet.

Such aircraft are mostly used for international flights. The two airlines, however, decided to put the planes into service for domestic flights in the wake of the growing passenger rush.

Air India said on Tuesday it would use a Boeing 777 on the Mumbai-Delhi sector till January 15. The move would boost the passenger-carrying capacity of flights to Delhi and Goa.
